For those of you that haven’t seen it here’s Lana Del Rey’s first live performance on American TV, or as it has come to be known, ‘the apocalypse’.Lana Del Rey’s stage presence is basically a mixture of utter boredom and a two step shuffle that makes her look like she needs to use the bathroom really bad.
I was expecting Carrie levels of embarrassing. This was…I guess it could have been worse?
the thing that’s really weird about all this overreacting is that to find a better performance where she looks and sounds confident and has a better strange presence is really not that hard… at all. finding this video took me about a minute. and apparently it’s the first time ever she performed this particular song live.
i feel like a stan saying this but h8rs are getting more and more desperate they way they want to bend truth to fit their sexist, slut-shaming narrative.
Argh I hate how horrible everyone is being about this on the blogs/in the ‘news’, utterly sexist, yes. People who clearly don’t know much about music saying she ‘sang out of tune’, no, she did not sing out of tune, no more than any other live artist who isn’t auto-tuned. And she was nervous, I hear, wouldn’t anyone be nervous performing on live TV for millions of people? And nerves make you freeze up, your mind does evil evil things to you, telling you that you don’t know the lyrics and you look stupid and don’t do that you’ll forget the lyrics, don’t look into the camera, don’t look up you look ugly when you look up, don’t turn around, oh no what’s the words to the second verse?
Just sexist bullshit trying to find reasons to lay into her, reasons she deserves poisonous remarks, preying on our jealousy and misogyny. I’m not gonna revel in her supposed failure because I’m not a pathetic jealous person.
…What is her voice. Seriously now. Oh dear.
There’s nothing wrong with this. People may not like her voice but it’s not objectively bad. Pro-tip for music fans: if you don’t like it, don’t listen to it.

It might be that I’m being oblivious but can somebody please explain to me how the remarks regarding her performance are sexist?
It was a bad performance. There is no getting away from that. It sounded nothing like the recorded version; it was forced, confused and sounded a bit like she was doing odd impersonations. Her variations on it added nothing to the song whatsoever.
Fair enough she sounds a bit better in the second video but that doesn’t get away from that fact that you could pick any wannabe singer off the street and they could do a better job. It’s understandably annoying for people trying to find success in the music industry when shit like this gets coverage on a nationally televised platform.
